Y. Shen had and will have her individual painting exhibits, demos and workshops at public libraries at Wellesley, Chelmsford and Lexington, Massachusetts during these two years. Roosters are a popular Chinese painting subject. There is an old Chinese saying that goes: "With the five moral characters, roosters are refined in manner by putting on their crowns, armed with spurs on the feet, brave to fight with their enemies, kindness of telling each other when getting food, and reliable on crowing without missing a day. In addition, the rooster symbolizes luck in Chinese culture. Please enjoy the rooster paintings.

Chinese Brush Painting--Landscape   May 22, 2005   [Total:7]

Landscape painting is one of the three Chinese painting branches. The other two are flower-bird and figure. As the painting technique styles, it can be Meticulous (gongbi) -using contour methods, outline the object first, then color it. Meticulous style requires great care and grace; the strict composition has fine elaboration. The effect is highly decorative; or Freehand(xieyi) -- Freehand style generalizes shapes and displays rich brushwork and ink technique. Paintings in this group are Freehand style.

In addition, the painting skills of these four subjects are the fundamental skills of the Chinese painting. This is why they are so popular.

Traditional Chinese painting has three major branches: landscape, flower-bird and figure. Flower-bird painting includes flowers, fruits, vegetables, birds and fish.
